The modern push for a small dollar coin began because the large Ike dollars were too heavy and unpopular for everyday use. To save on production costs, the Mint introduced the small, 11-sided Susan B. Anthony dollar, but it was a flop because its size and color were too easily confused with the quarter. The Mint then created a gold-colored coin with a smooth edge featuring Shoshone guide, Sacagawea. This coin still failed to displace paper dollars. The Mint later authorized the Presidential dollar program honoring deceased U.S. Presidents, followed by the currently running Innovation dollar program. Both of these types are widely collected but not used in general circulation. We'll choose one specimen from each series in BU quality for a total of four coins.
