When this set was issued no one could have anticipated that it would be the last to include a Franklin silver half dollar. That series was scheduled to continue at least through 1972. But after the 1963 assassination of President Kennedy, it was supplanted by the new JFK type. Consequently, a lot fewer Franklin half dollar proofs are available. The only way to obtain them has been to break up existing 5-coin proof sets. The result is fewer 1963 proof sets remaining intact. The set also includes the 90% silver quarter and dime, plus nickel and penny proofs.
