Product Description
Minted over a century and a quarter ago, many of these big silver dollars have been lost to melts and attrition. As few as 0.6% (that`s less than 1%) of these 1887-O New Orleans issues are estimated to exist in mint-state quality today. That`s one of the very lowest survival rates in the entire Morgan series. An unusually large proportion of the 11.5 million silver dollars were held in reserve and lost in government melts during the world wars. That limited availability puts added pressure on circulated coins like the Extra Fine quality offered here.
