Struck in 90% silver, Walking Liberty half dollars are often considered America's most beautiful silver classic coins. The series, which began in 1916 became eligible for retirement in 1942 after 25 years service. But this most unabashedly patriotic coin continued to be minted through World War II and the immediate postwar period. This 1944 Philadelphia issue remains in nicely detailed Very Fine quality. Far more were produced at the principal Philadelphia Mint in the two previous years.
