Considered an essential specimen for a comprehensive collection, the doubled tail feather (or seven over eight) 1878 Philadelphia variety can be a tough Morgan to track down in mint-state grades. However, we've recently acquired enough of these sought after specimens – in Choice Brilliant Uncirculated MS-63 condition, no less – to be able to offer them to our customers. Shortly after its introduction, the Morgan's reverse engraving underwent several modifications; this coveted doubled type resulted from partially effaced dies that were converted from the original eight to seven tail feather design.
