Product Description
1879-O Morgan Silver Dollar AU – The historic 1879-O New Orleans Mint issue has special collector appeal as the first Morgan silver dollar of the Old South. An epidemic had closed this branch the previous year, when other U.S. minting facilities introduced the Morgan dollar. It was the first time New Orleans had issued coins since the Civil War erupted in 1861. Its 1879 mintage was just 20% of Philadelphia's. About Uncirculated quality.
1884-O Morgan Silver Dollar AU – This big Morgan silver dollar was struck by the historic New Orleans Mint in its heyday. At the time, the Old South's mint had only recently re-opened after Reconstruction. No other coin denomination was struck by New Orleans in 1884, yet the mintage was significantly less than Philadelphia's. Just one-third may survive today in mint-state quality putting pressure on circulated specimens like these.
1904-O Morgan Silver Dollar AU – In 1962, this issue was one of the three costliest rarities in the series! Only a few thousand were known to exist in any condition, but then the last U.S. Treasury releases stunned the collecting world: numerous bags emerged from government vaults containing pristine 1904-O Morgans. Today mint-state specimens aren't hard to find, but as few as 4,000 may exist in circulated quality.
