When compared to other O-Mint Morgans, this micro type is noticeably smaller – it's thought that the mintmark punch used was for a quarter or half dollar of the time. It's not known how many of the 1880-O's original 5.3 million business strikes may have carried this miniature mark, but experts estimate that less than 2% of any type are extant in mint-state grades. That low survival rate means that when Uncirculated examples turn up in the marketplace, they can command as much as five figures. These barely circulated AU specimens are a real bargain by comparison!
