Product Description
1880-O Micro O Morgan Silver Dollar AU – When compared to other O-Mint Morgans, this micro type is noticeably smaller – it's thought that the mintmark punch used was for a quarter or half dollar of the time. It's not known how many of the 1880-O's original 5.3 million business strikes may have carried this miniature mark, but experts estimate that less than 2% of any type are extant in mint-state grades. That low survival rate means that when Uncirculated examples turn up in the marketplace, they can command as much as five figures. This barely circulated AU specimen is a real bargain by comparison!
1882-O/S Morgan Silver Dollar AU – This over-mintmarked treasure is difficult to find in mint-state condition. Locating circulated specimens can also be a challenge, as fewer than 20,000 may remain today. These particular 1882 New Orleans silver dollars were struck using dies that were sent from San Francisco. The reverse die was only partially effaced, thus resulting in the ghostly specter of the S mintmark. More than 140 years later, remnants of San Fran's signature can still be found within the O on a number of these Old South Morgans. About Uncirculated quality.
