Shortly after the Buffalo nickel entered circulation in 1913, it became apparent that alterations to the reverse would be in order. With use, the high relief design of the raised mound the bison stood on would quickly wear away – and with it, the denomination of FIVE CENTS. The introduction of the modified version created two collectible varieties; we are offering a Philadelphia and Denver pair of raised mound first types in lightly circulated Extra Fine condition.
