This 1927-D Standing Liberty silver quarter is a highly sought-after semi-key date with a low mintage of just 976,400 coins. When the denomination's Barber engraving was retired in late 1916, the beautiful Standing Liberty design that replaced it shocked straight-laced members of the American public. Lady Liberty was depicted with an exposed breast and thigh. Partway through 1917, the scantily clad Liberty was covered up in chainmail and remained so until the end of the series.
