For decades, these silver coins struck by the Mexico Mint were used as legal tender in the United States and continued to circulate informally. These specimens were issued from 1824 to 1836 and may well have been used at the Alamo, the historic Spanish mission and fortress in San Antonio, Texas, famous for the 1836 Battle of the Alamo. The Mexican coat of arms is displayed on the obverse of the coin. On its reverse, the bold Cap and Rays design adopted the Phrygian cap, a symbol of liberty used on many early U.S. coins. Good to Very Good quality. Our choice of date based on availability.
