Own a piece of American history with this pair of Indian Head pennies struck during the final years of the Civil War. The 1864 bronze Indian Head cent replaced copper-nickel specimens minted earlier that year and marks a major transition in U.S. coinage. Replacing the copper-nickel alloy with a lighter bronze composition was done due to Civil War hoarding. In 1865 the new, lighter-weight bronze composition was used for the entire year. Good quality.
