1882 & 1883 Shield Nickel Pair Very Fine

Product Description

These coins were the first "true" nickels. Previous five-cent pieces were tiny silver half dime coins. The Shield nickel was introduced right after the Civil War to help replace the paper fractional currency that had replaced hard currency due to hoarding. Our pair includes the final two dates in collectible Very Fine condition. Since these coins were only minted from 1866 to 1883, it's relatively easy to compile a complete set. This pair is a great start!
