Product Description
1921 Philadelphia Morgan Silver Dollar, By the time the Morgan series was suspended in 1904, millions of surplus silver dollars had already been socked away in storage vaults. But during WWI, massive numbers were melted and converted to bullion. When the war was over, the U.S. Mint was required to strike more Morgans... but original hubs had been destroyed and then were remade. Because the 1921 Morgan was recreated, this final date carries unique engravings, possessing less relief than earlier issues. Very Fine quality.
1921 Philadelphia Peace Silver Dollar. The first Peace dollars were struck more than a century ago during the final week of 1921 by the Philadelphia Mint with a high relief design. The new engraving caused issues with production, slowing the minting process. Just over one million were output for circulation — which seems substantial — but the following year Philadelphia would produce nearly 52 million 1922 Peace dollars! Today it's estimated that just a fraction of these coveted high relief 1921 specimens survive in the nicely detailed Very Fine quality we are offering or higher grades.
