Product Description
1962 Over Half Century Old Silver 5-Coin Proof Set. This 1962 U.S. proof set was one of the last regular sets to include a 90% silver dime, quarter and half dollar in addition to the cent and nickel. Its limited mintage was just 3.2 million (individual circulation mintages for these denominations were up to 750 times higher). Some sets were broken up to obtain coveted individual Franklin half dollars.
1963 Last Franklin Silver 5-Coin Proof Set. When this set was issued no one anticipated it would be the last to include a Franklin silver half dollar. That series was scheduled to continue through 1972. But after the 1963 assassination of President Kennedy, it was supplanted by the new JFK type. The only way to obtain a 1963 proof Franklin half has been to break up existing sets, so fewer remain intact.
