Product Description
The 1879 Philadelphia Mint Morgan BU is comparatively scarce among early dates. As few as 177,000 may currently survive in mint-state quality or better. That's less than 1.5% of the original 14.8 million mintage. Today it's the second scarcest Philadelphia BU in the series up to the low-mintage dates of the 1890s. The reason is that tremendous numbers of these Philadelphia issues were lost in government melts during the world wars, hugely disproportionate to other mints' issues of the day. Our Brilliant Uncirculated quality has nice original luster and no sign of wear (some bags marks are present, as is normal).
