1864 Pointed Bust Indian Head Cent Good

The cents produced in early 1864 were composed of copper-nickel and were output only for a few months. Later that year due to hoarding of the coins bronze cents were substituted. Those 1864 bronze Indian Head cents had high mintages of 39,233,714. With so many produced this date isn't too difficult to locate. But within that sizable output there are some 1864 bronze cents produced near the end of the year with a pointed bust and an "L" for the designer, Chief Engraver James B. Longacre, on the lower ribbon. This popular "L Pointed Bust" variety is very scarce in mint state and a tough find in circulated grades as well. The Good quality specimens offered here were used enough in commerce that the "L" is no longer visible, but the pointed bust design is clear and confirms its designation.
